Elizabeth Martin Carvill Miss Ellis Elizabeth Carvill apologizes that Ruth is late returning to school for want of a suitable escort. Elizabeth then complains that Ruth was sent to school with 7 pairs of stockings (4 perfectly new). When she returned home she only had one pair of stockings and they were not her own. Elizabeth asks Miss Ellis if instead of punishing Ruth for her disorder by assigning "lines' that she be made instead to mend her clothing as this "would be an advantage.'
