Elizabeth Carvill writes to Mrs Potter to enclose a letter for Mrs. Potter to give to Phyllis about Ruth - "We are most unhappy about Ruth. It is only recently that much of what is in the letter has come to our knowledge'¦. We came to the conclusion either I or her Father speaking to her might only aggravate the situation.'
