  • Description

Part of page one was written beyond the carbon paper, so is missing.   Nellie was sent money and Elizabeth hopes that she got it safely.   She thinks Nellie should have stayed in Ireland. She has no idea where their sister Gertrude is other than the last card came from Kensington Gardens Square.   She indicates that "Frankey"? is still abroad and Esmond was with the Frasers and is headed to Winnipeg.   She mentions that John (her husband, John Carvill) gave up his business and it was bought by Joseph Fisher & Sons.   John has the flu.   Finn (the dog) is much better.   Signed "with love your affectionate sister E. Carvill." NOTE:     Elizabeth Martin Carvill (b 1858-d 1936) married John Carvill (b 1854-d 1927).   Ellen Dalway Martin, her sister, never married and was nicknamed Nellie (b 1853-d 1943).   In 1907 she was in South Africa working as a Governess.   Gertrude Martin, another sister, never married (b 1855, d 1938). In 1907 Gertrude was in London making her living doing needlework and making lace.   Both of these sisters eventually died in Ireland.   The Frasers are Jane Martin & Donald Fraser - Jane is their father-s sister, their Aunt, and lived in London, Ontario, Canada.   By 1908 the son of a brother of their father , their cousin James Martin Jr, lived near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.   Esmond and Frank (William Francis) were the sons of Millicent Jane Martin (b1848 - d 1929), their eldest sister, by her husband Dr. John Nashville Villers-Ryan of Rostrevor.     Esmond remained in Canada dying in 1953 in Vancouver BC.   The last documentation we have of Frank is that he was on his way to Liverpool in 1912.
