left page: watercolor by Ruth Martin Carvill entitled "Zara, the ancestor". Journal entry, 2 pages: Journal entry about her mother, Kitty and Ruth choosing patterns for flannel blouses. Her entry includes that she darned stockings and then walked to Mrs. Hughes' tea party arriving late enough to have their tea by themselves while the rest of the party had adjourned to the drawing room to hear Mr. Hughes play Faust on the piano. The entry continues about their cold walk home and how the sunlight was absent because they live in the shadow of the mountain. After they arrived home, a fire pit was lit, they talked, and after supper Kitty and Ruth read "Irish Ballads" and mounted pictures in her "Log".
