Description
Ruth Martin Carvill's essay, "My Bedroom" Her description of her bedroom includes naming it "peace" & her "chief treasure", where she comes to get rid of her bad temper. It has a broad oak fireplace, blue-green hanging grapes paper, dark carved oak panels, and is divided into 2 parts (a bedroom and sitting room, divided by a green curtain). The floor of her bedroom is inlaid polished slippery oak. Her bed is also polished dark oak, as is most of her furniture. She has a copper hinged shelf with books of Scott (not Aristotle or philosophers). One window faces east so she can see the sun and moon rises. Another window is bowed with a narrow seat in front. She has a "Greazes" painting of a listening girl. The sitting room is like a fairyland of light and airiness, and has bright-eyed little girls on the wallpaper. She describes her high backed settee & other furnishings & shelves, including her easel & painting materials. She quotes Coleridge about sleep. Teacher's comments at end. No grade.
