    Ruth Martin Carvill's essay   answers the question, "What is a Game?' She mentions that some bookworms would rather read in the woods the words of the "sweet warbler Dan Chaucer' than play a game like tennis.   She discusses the advantages and disadvantages of game playing, as well as criticism of women not playing games in the past (teacher-s remarks to those critical comments:   "Oh?   Shades of Eunice Elizabeth!').
